How to redact a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Pick it or drop it on this page.

  2. Mark what to remove

Drag boxes over the text and pictures to redact.

  3. Apply and save

Apply removes the content and rewrites the file so no copy of it remains.

Redact PDF in your browser

A black box drawn over text hides it on screen, but the words are usually still in the file, where anyone can select, copy or search for them. Real redaction removes them. OnePDF deletes the text and pictures under each box from the page, then rebuilds the file so no earlier revision still holds them.

Every marked area is listed before you apply, so you can review them and take any off. Redaction happens on your device; for the strictest privacy, redact signed out, so the unredacted original is never saved to an account.

Why use OnePDF to redact a PDF

  • Really removed

The words under a redaction are deleted from the page, so they cannot be selected, copied or searched.

  • No hidden copy

The file is rewritten after redacting, so the original text is not kept in an earlier revision.

  • Review before applying

Every marked area is listed; remove any before you apply.

Questions about Redact PDF

Is redacted text really gone?

Yes. The text and pictures under each box are deleted from the page, and the file is rebuilt so no earlier revision still holds them.

Can I undo a redaction?

Before you apply it, yes. Marks can be removed from the list. After applying and saving, the content is gone for good.

Is my PDF uploaded?

Not unless you sign in. Signed out, your file is opened by OnePDF inside your browser, on your own device, and is not uploaded to any server. Signed in with a TensorActivity account, the files you open are also saved to your account, encrypted, so they are there on every device you sign in to. That matters most for a document you are redacting: signed in, the file is saved to your account as you open it, unredacted, and replaced by the redacted file when you save. To keep the original out of your account, redact it signed out, or choose "Keep on this device only" for it.
