A private alternative to Smallpdf, iLovePDF and Acrobat online
The one real difference
The online tools of Smallpdf, iLovePDF and Adobe Acrobat are good, established services, and they work the same way: your file is uploaded to the company's servers, processed there, and kept for a time before it is deleted. They say so openly; the upload guide quotes how long each says it keeps files.
OnePDF does the same jobs inside your browser. Signed out, your file is not uploaded anywhere, and you can check that yourself: load the page, go offline, and every tool still works.
The same everyday tools
Everything people most often go to an online PDF site for is here, on your device:
- Edit the existing text of a PDF in its own fonts, add text and pictures, highlight and comment: Edit PDF, Annotate PDF.
- Merge, split, compress, rotate, reorder and delete pages: Merge PDF, Compress PDF, Organize PDF.
- Convert PDF to and from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG and PNG: PDF to Word, Word to PDF, PDF to JPG.
- Fill forms, sign with a drawn or a digital signature, redact, password-protect and unlock: Sign PDF, Redact PDF, Protect PDF.
- Recognise the text in scans, in about 50 languages: OCR PDF.
Every tool is free to use, without an account.
When another tool is the better choice
Being honest about it: if you need to send a document out for several people to sign and track who has, an e-signature service built for that does more than any editor. Some conversions have gaps here too. Word headers and footers, and Excel and PowerPoint charts, are not carried into the PDF yet, and OnePDF tells you when it leaves something out. And a very large file is limited by your own device's memory rather than a server's.
For everything else, and especially for documents you would rather not upload, OnePDF is built to be the one you reach for.
